The earliest records of our building date back to the 1867/68 Allegheny City Directory, which list the owner as George Schneider, Blacksmith. Additionally, we’ve discovered an entry in the 1868/69 Directory that lists John Schmittdiel of Schmittdiel & Co. and Schmittdiel & Snider, horseshoers, as the businesses that operated here.

The Schmittdiels (John and Sophia), along with their eight children and Sophia’s mother, also made their home in the adjacent house.

The property changed hands several times until 1920, when the Korinis family purchased it. They transformed it into a hard tack candy and chocolate shop, selling their wares at the Allegheny City Market and at a kiosk in Northway Mall.

In 2000, they closed the candy shop and the building was sold to its current owner. In 2006, the painstaking process of renovating the property back to its original look took place. Since then, the property has been used as a design and architectural studio.

Now, we’re opening it to the public, offering you the unique opportunity to host an intimate gathering in a unique building with true history.
